We are not a fan of the raisins in the barmbrack, so have tweaked our own recipe to suit Chocolate lovers in our house. The hidden jewels** in the cake will make a good find too 🙂
Halloween Barmbrack with chocolate and bannana! (a sort of banana bread really)
200g self raising flour
1 1/2 teasp ground cinnamon
1 teasp baking powder
1/2 teasp bread soda
120ml sunflower oil
2 med eggs
150g honey (a good one)
The other ingredients:
2 medium bananas
fist full of walnuts crushed a bit
fist full of dark chocolate chips
A clean ring or coin or jewel or some sort, wrapped in parchment baking paper.
Put on oven to 150deg. prepare tin with baking parchment.
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl
Whisk wet ingredients in separate bowl
Mash bananas and then add to wet mixture
Add wet mixture to dry mixture. Mix them both up together and then add in walnuts and choc chips. Keep 2 or 3 walnuts for the top of mixture in the tin.
Pour into the preparared tin.
Place the jewel or ring wrapped in baking parchment, in the middle of the mixture. **
Place the extra whole walnuts on top of mixture and place into heated oven. 1 hr 15mins to bake.
Once baked, leave out on rack to cool for 10 mins, then remove from tin.
Serve with love and laughter!
